The Evolution of “USUI” Reiki

Each of these systems Of Usui Reiki that are listed below, stay true to the foundational principles of Usui Reiki, but may vary in their methods, techniques, symbols, and spiritual perspectives.

There are MANY more systems of “Usui Reiki” that are not listed here, that have evolved from the original Usui system.

Because we are all unique, we add to our Reiki practice, things that utilize our individual gifts as a healer and a teacher.  For that reason, we attract our own tribe, who will heal, learn, grow, and evolve their practice of Reiki as a result of our influence.  Their Reiki clients will benefit from the healing sessions that they offer, and the classes that they teach.

One System of Reiki is not better than the other, just different.  What is best is what resonates most with the person.

I obtained the following information from the app:  ChatGPT regarding some of the systems of Reiki.

Usui Reiki is the most common and foundational system of Reiki, a Japanese energy healing modality developed by Mikao Usui in the early 20th century. Over time, various branches and systems have evolved from Usui Reiki, each with its own approach and techniques. Here are the main systems within the framework of Usui Reiki:

Usui Shiki Ryoho

Description: This is the traditional form of Usui Reiki that was developed by Mikao Usui. The system was spread in the West primarily through Hawayo Takata, who was a student of Chujiro Hayashi (one of Usui’s direct disciples).

Focus: Emphasizes hands-on healing, a set of sacred symbols, attunements, and spiritual growth. It includes three levels or degrees:

  1. Level I (Shoden): Focuses on physical healing and basic self-healing techniques.

  2. Level II (Okuden): Introduces sacred symbols, distance healing, and mental/emotional healing.

  3. Level III (Shinpiden): Known as the Master level, this includes advanced techniques and attunement training.

Usui/Tibetan Reiki

Description: A system developed by Western Reiki Masters that blends traditional Usui Reiki with Tibetan practices. It incorporates additional symbols and a more structured attunement process.

  • Focus: The system still uses the core symbols and techniques of Usui Reiki but adds more complex attunements, including those based on Tibetan energy healing practices. The attunements are often more intensive, using a combination of breathing techniques and visualizations.

Usui Reiki Ryoho Gakkai

Description: This is the original Reiki organization founded by Mikao Usui in Japan. It has remained more traditional than the Western forms of Reiki, and its teachings are closer to how Reiki was practiced in Japan during Usui’s lifetime.

  • Focus: This system emphasizes spiritual development alongside healing, meditation, and the use of Reiki as a path to enlightenment. The organization is private, and teachings are often kept within Japan.

Jikiden Reiki

Description: Founded by Chiyoko Yamaguchi and Tadao Yamaguchi, Jikiden Reiki claims to be a direct, unaltered form of Reiki as taught by Chujiro Hayashi, one of Usui’s direct students.

  • Focus: Jikiden Reiki is a more traditional Japanese practice, with a focus on the original techniques of Usui and Hayashi. The term “Jikiden” means “directly passed down,” and it emphasizes simplicity and the original practices of Mikao Usui.

Gendai Reiki Ho

Description: This system was developed by Hiroshi Doi, who trained in both Western and Japanese Reiki systems. Gendai Reiki combines traditional Usui teachings with modern spiritual practices.

  • Focus: Gendai Reiki Ho seeks to bridge the gap between Western and Japanese Reiki systems by incorporating elements of both, such as using Reiki for spiritual healing and development.

Komyo ReikiDo

Description: Founded by Hyakuten Inamoto, Komyo ReikiDo focuses on Reiki as a spiritual path, emphasizing simplicity and the original Japanese Reiki techniques.

  • Focus: This system sees Reiki as both a healing art and a way of enlightenment. The teachings revolve around simplicity, meditation, and the practice of Reiki as a way of life.

Holy Fire Reiki

Description: This system was developed by William Lee Rand in 2014 and represents a modern form of Reiki. Holy Fire Reiki is said to channel a higher, more refined healing energy than traditional Usui Reiki.

  • Focus: Holy Fire Reiki places emphasis on the practitioner’s personal development and the refinement of the healing energy. The attunement process is replaced by what is called “Ignition,” where the practitioner connects directly to the Holy Fire energy.
